Information
Holden Torana TT36
In the Early 2000s, Holden was doing well in sales, allowing them to have much more creative freedom for design and engineering. With this, three high-ups in GM and Holden, Bob Lutz, Peter Hanenbeger, and Mike Simcoe, came up with the idea for the Torana TT36. It was supposed to be a mid-sized European sedan competitor with a whole lineup planned from an entry model of a i4 to the mid-range V6 and even a top-of-the-line V8. It was meant to be a BMW 3 Series competitor.
Unveiled in 2004, the Holden Torana TT36, originally called the XP54, was shown in what was supposed to be the middle spec with a twin-turbo 3.6L V6. Using twin KO4 Warner turbochargers, an air-to-air intercooler, and variable valves to make 375hp and 354 ft-lb (480 Nm) of torque, which was sent exclusively to the rear wheels.
While the Holden Torana never went into production, it was quite close, with Mike Simcoe saying, It's at the point where it could be sent off to engineering to finish, . All the work done wasn’t a complete loss, though, with a similar look being used on the 2006 Holden VE Commodore.
