Holden Coupe 60
The Holden Coupe 60 was a concept based off of GM Holden’s Zeta Platform to show a b pillarless design. Shown at the 2008 Melbourne International Motor Show, as a tribute to 60 years since the 48-215 was made at the Fishermans Bend Plant, in Port Melbourne, Victoria. It also was made to show the future design, engineering, and technology Holden was going into at the time. With the concept costing $2.5 million dollars, many people thought that this was going to be the next iteration of the Monaro but it never was meant to go into full scale production.
The team behind the Holden Coupe 60 took 7 months to finish the project. The Project Design Manager was Peter Hughs, who led the team to have an almost fully functioning concept. With a base platform already picked, they used SS V parts, and shortened the chassis by 57mm. Most of the work for the car was done in Japan for ease of production and helped keep the car a secret before the show. What they ended up creating was a two door four seater that broke away from Holden’s traditional H pattern seating style, with a lower roofline, and it's all powered by a 6.0L V8.
The engine produces 400hp which goes through a 6-speed manual transmission going exclusively to the rear wheels. Exhaust is a dual side exit, with center lock wheels, and brake induction vents for a sportier look. Carbon fiber was also used for weight savings and for looks with the spoiler, front, and rear spoiler, with the body panels made out of fiberglass. The body panels were designed using a one piece panel design that was growing in popularity at the time. While the design was done in Australia, the manufacturing was done almost completely in Japan.
