Built in 1999 using GT1 parts and Gunnar's own chassis, the Gunnar G-99 was originally built as a Spyder (G-99 S) to be run in the 2002 24 Hours of Daytona. However, Grand-Am changed their minds to allow the open cockpit design, requiring the car to be converted into coupe form (G-99 C) to run in the 2003 24 Hours of Daytona.
