Information

The Fiat Dino came to be because Enzo Ferrari wanted to homologate a 2L V6 engine in Formula 2 but the 1967 regulations stipulated that a road car with at least 500 units produced per year had to mounted the engine to be homologated, a nunber Ferrari could not achieve, so Fiat built the engines and used them in the Fiat Dino Coupé and Dino Spyder.

While the Dino Coupé sort of looked like an European muscle car, Pininfarina's Paolo Martin wanted to play with the car's bodywork to give it a much sleeker profile.

And the Dino Berlinetta Aerodinamica was born. Presented at the 1967 Paris Motor Show, this car looked little like the Dino Coupé it was based on as it featured a pointy front and pop-up headlights to better cut through the air, a laid back cockpit with its windshield at a smaller angle and the roofline would continue to the rear end in one curved line, ending in a Kamm tail, looking a lot like a shooting brake.

The Fiat Dino Ginevra pictured above is an evolution of the Berlinetta Aerodinamica presented the previous year at Paris (this one was unveiled at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show, hence the name 'Ginevra'). It is now painted red, the front bumper is bulkier and the Kamm tail sits lower now as the roof curve is much more pronounced behind the cockpit. It looks less like a shooting brake and more like a coupé now.

Specs-wise, nothing changed from the normal Dino, so the 2L V6 is still there but it weighs less, the claim is less than 1100 kg.

Lee Hower (US) entered the car at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2024 (Class G - Time Capsules: Cars that the outside world forgot) and was previously offered for sale at Morton Street Partners.
