Supposedly, the original buyer was acting as a ‘shadow’ buyer for the Volvo factory. The car is said to have been used as an inspirational model for the P172 prototype which never materialized as successor of the Volvo P1800. The P172 prototype shows a striking detail resemblance with the Facel II.
