Information
During 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix, Marcus Ericsson spun and crashed the car. The team gave up repairing the chassis, and took everything from it and put them on the new chassis. Even the chassis number plaque was removed and put on the new chassis.
After Caterham F1 folded later that season, this chassis was auctioned and bought by Kevin Thomas, an F1 enthusiast and race car collector. Kevin started his collection with a bare BAR 003 monocoque, rebuilt all by himself to a basically complete condition. This time, he had another damaged chassis, and again he chose to rebuild it. However he isn't doing it only by himself, but with a professional team.
Kevin and his team repaired the chassis, rebuilt the bodywork and suspension, and used a Renault Formula V8 engine to replace the original hybrid power unit. In 2024, almost 10 years after this car's last run, it could move on its own. Although still not enough to be fully functional, it was still a milestone. Kevin has been dreaming of driving or seeing his own F1 car back on track, and now he's gradually getting closer and closer to it.
