At around 5 o'clock in the early morning of March 11, 2024, a 54-year-old man on Lawrence Avenue West near Allen Road in North York, Toronto, was hit by an out-of-control BMW M5 CS on the sidewalk. The man was seriously injured and died after being taken to the hospital. The 19 years old driver was arrested by the police and charged with causing death by drunk driving and dangerous driving. Additionally, he faced extra charges for excessive blood alcohol concentration and being a novice driver. At the time of the accident, the driver lost control and drove onto the curb and onto the sidewalk. There were three passengers in the vehicle, but they were not injured at that time. The scene showed severe damage to the vehicle, damaged roadside signs, and scattered debris on the ground.
