In 2005, Audi presented another spectacular concept at the Tokyo Motor Show: the Audi Shooting Brake Concept. It was a stylish interpretation of the Audi TT design language of its time, combining the powerful dynamics of a sports car with the spaciousness and functionality of a shooting brake — a sporty station-wagon-inspired body style rooted in British automotive tradition.
With its 250-hp 3.2-liter V6 engine and permanent quattro all-wheel drive, the Shooting Brake delivered driving dynamics perfectly in line with its striking appearance. The concept sprinted from 0 to 100 km/h in just six seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.
Its front end was dominated by the distinctive Singleframe grille featuring prominent longitudinal chrome slats. The sharply angled front section - further emphasized by pronounced side air intakes
— together with the dynamic shape of the clear-lens headlights gave the car an assertive, bold expression. This design referenced the characteristic front of contemporary A4 DTM race cars and elements of the visionary Audi RSQ study.
A completely new stylistic element was the upward sweep of the rear side window. Together with the broad C-pillar, it emphasized the car's powerful rear. The visual focus of the Shooting Brake Concept, painted in Bionic White pearl effect, lay in its rear design: the flat trapezoid of the rear window and the distinctly convex tailgate surface formed a counterpart to the low front end, giving the vehicle a crouched, ready-to-leap stance.
Beyond its dramatic styling, the Shooting Brake Concept also showcased numerous technological innovations from Audi. These included the adaptive damping system 'Audi magnetic ride,' an enhanced version of the Navigation System Plus with a touchscreen and handwriting recognition, and a newly developed LED front-headlight technology.
