Information
After the overseas success of the Michelotti-designed MG TD, Stanley H. Arnolt commisioned Bertone the Aston Martin DB2/4 and Arnolt-Bristol 404X and Roadster 'Bolide'. Three of those DB2/4s, LML/503, 505 and 507 received roadster bodies penned by Franco Scaglione whose designer was oicked over Michelotti's. Of those three only 507 pictured above went racing. with Carl Kiekhaefer, a previous owner, reportedly driving it in a few SCCA-sanctioned road racing events.
The bodywork fitted to the chassis leaves minimum space bewteen it and the chassis itself, this being shown by the curvature of its body panels and the pointiness of its lines. The hood resembles a house roof taller at the top so it can clear the straight-6 engine and also being mounted lower than it on the sides. The pointy wheel wings are a direct inspiration from the Alfa Romeo B.A.T series of concepts from around the same time albeit much more tame in comparison. This mix of curves and straight lines will be seen in the Lamborghini 350 GTV as well.
This chassis is the one sold at the @rmsothebys 2011 Villa d'Este auction, a notorious one due to the sale of the Lancia Stratos Zero and Sibilo and Lamborghini Athon, Bravo and Marzal concept cars. It is currently under Swiss ownership.
