Information
On August 10th 1997 the Hungarian Grand Prix was held. After a complicated season-start, Arrows Grand Prix found themselves after some improvement. On qualifying Damon Hill classified 3rd, just 0.372 off pole sitter Michael Schumacher (his best quali of 1997). On race start Damon Hill overtook Villeneuve for 2nd place and started to catch Schumacher for the lead. Hill overtook Schumacher on Lap 11 and started to pull an impressive pace, opening a 35-secs gap to 2nd place, Jacques Villeneuve. Unfortunatly on Lap 74 (of 77), Hill started to struggle due a washer issue which left stuck in 3rd gear. Jacques overtook Damon on final lap and opened a 9-secs gap, finishing in P2. Hungary 1997 marked Arrows Grand Prix's final F1 podium, as they never got other podium or had chances of a victory. Otherwise Damon Hill won his 22nd race at chaotic 1998 Belgian Grand Prix, his final F1 victory and podium, retiring on 1999. Arrows retired on 2002. It was a race we really should have won. - John Barnard, tech chief of Arrows Grand Prix.
