Following the demise of the AMX/3 program, two examples were bought from AMC by designer Richard Teague. This car was one of those pairs and was eventually sold to George Doughtie Jr and then on to the Prisma Collection. The current custodian acquired the car in 2003. He had it restored to its original configuration and refitted with its original engine
