About
Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio is one of six children of the late Leonardo Del Vecchio (1935-2022), the Italian billionaire founder Luxottica and chairman of EssilorLuxottica SA, the world's largest manufacturer and retailer of eyeglasses. Del Vecchio's Luxembourg-based holding company Delfin controls a 32% stake in EssilorLuxottica as well as a 27% stake in French property management company Covivio.
When Del Vecchio passed away in 2022, he left a fortune estimated at US$29 billion and split his stake in Delfin between his wife and six children. Thanks to this, Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, then just 27 years old, inherited 12.5% of Delfin. Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio serves as Chief Strategy Officer at EssilorLuxottica and, as of 2024, Forbes estimates his net worth at US$5 billion.
Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio has a passion for fast cars, made evident by a partnership EssilorLuxottica has with Ferrari S.p.A. to produce and market Ferrari-branded eyewear products, as well as Del Vecchio's own amateur racing career as a Ferrari Challenge driver. He also has a growing car collection, including a swath of Ferrari hypercars as well as an Aston Martin Valkyrie, Pagani Huayra, and Maserati MC12. However, his most famous car is one that most don't associate with him. As a publicity stunt, Del Vecchio's Ferrari F40 was craned onto the bow of a yacht at the 2023 F1 Monaco Grand Prix, later featuring on the cover of an EP by British rappers Central Cee and Dave.
