Spencer Collection
Hillsborough, California, United States
About
The 1960s San Francisco-area car collection of Beverly 'Bev' Spencer (b. 1917 d.1977), the owner of Spencer Buick (a Buick & Ferrari dealership) and privateer racing team owner. In period, Mr. Spencer owned multiple Ferrari 250 GTOs, specifically 5571GT and 4219GT, which were maintained at his Hillsborough, California dealership. He was also once the owner of the first Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, as well as a Ferrari 250 GT SWB, Maserati 151, and more. Mr. Spencer raced with the North America Racing Team (NART) in 1963 and, notably, sold 250 GTO s/n 4219GT in late 1963 for $14,000.
The Spencer family has a long history in the world of the automobile. Bev Spencer's father was an Executive Vice President at Packard Motor Car Company, while Spencer's son (Roy Spencer) is an automotive historian, author, and a classic Mercedes-Benz aficionado. Unfortunately, Spencer Buick (and Spencer Enterprises as a whole) went out of business in the 1960s after an employee embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from the company.
