About
Philippe Cornet‑Epinat's collection featured track-prepared, high-performance sports cars used actively in endurance racing during the early 1970s. His key vehicle was a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Competizione Daytona, acquired through French dealer Charles Pozzi and race-prepared for the 1972 4 Hours of Le Mans, where he placed 8th overall and 5th in class. Additionally, he owned the Maserati Bora Group 4, and the Maserati Ghibli SSSpecial — both unique and most importantly factory-backed cars.
Bio
Philippe Cornet-Epinat is a French gentleman driver and private racing entrant active in the early 1970s. He comes from a well-established background and pursued motorsport as a serious personal passion. While not a professional driver by trade, Cornet-Epinat financed and raced cars at a high level, including an appearance at Le Mans.
He was particularly associated with French motorsport networks through Charles Pozzi, Ferrari’s main distributor in France, and Jean Thepenier, Maserati's main distributor in France. His approach was typical of French privateer racers of the era—self-funded, technically involved, and closely connected with manufacturers and preparers. Beyond racing, he maintained a low public profile, with limited media exposure outside of motorsport documentation.
