Bio
Jean Guichet (born August 10, 1927, in Marseille - died January 1, 2021) was a prominent French gentleman driver who made his mark in international GT and endurance racing during the late 1950s and 1960s. Initially a Maserati privateer, Guichet transitioned to Ferrari machinery where he found lasting success, including a factory-backed win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964 alongside Nino Vaccarella in a Ferrari 275P.
He competed in over 100 international races, often as part of elite client teams such as Scuderia Serenissima and Ecurie Francorchamps, and was widely respected for his consistency and mechanical sympathy. Among his frequent co-drivers were Pierre Noblet, José Behra, and Léon Dernier ( Eldé ).
Guichet was one of the rare individuals to be entrusted by Ferrari with multiple examples of the coveted 250 GTO, and owned several top-tier competition Ferraris including 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competiziones, Tour de France berlinettas, and multiple Interim and Series II LWB cars. Many of these chassis were raced under his own name or his personal team, and often sold to other noted drivers and collectors after competitive use.
Outside of motorsport, Guichet led a reserved life and distanced himself from the limelight following his retirement in the late 1960s. Nevertheless, his name remains indelibly associated with Ferrari's golden era of GT racing.
