Collection Gérard Gombert

Fayence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France
About
Gérard Gombert, known as La Gombe, built an extensive private collection at his property nicknamed L’Hacienda near Fayence, in Provence. What began as an auto and motorcycle repair garage evolved into an open-air assemblage of approximately 90 100 vehicles—mostly unrestored 1960s 70s sports cars, Alpine single-seaters, Lotus models, and several iconic exotics. Among the notable vehicles were a AC Ace Bristol, Alpine A210 Le Mans prototype, A108, multiple A110s, Lamborghini Miura, Porsche 904, Lotus Elan, AC Cobra, Ford Mustang, and classic French icons like Citroën DS and Renault R4. The collection also included dozens of motorcycles, spare parts, automobilia, and a nostalgic barn‑find atmosphere where pine needles and moss cloaked the machines.
Bio
Gérard Gombert (1939 2016), widely known as La Gombe, began his career as a motorcycle racer, competing in events such as the Bol d’Or. He later founded Garage Gombert in the 1960s, serving clientele on the Côte d’Azur, including celebrities like Johnny Hallyday, Christophe, Nicoletta, and Dick Rivers. He specialized in lightweight fibreglass repair and bodywork for marques like Alpine and Lotus—earning a reputation for inventive aerodynamic modifications. In the 1970s, Gombert relocated inland to Fayence, establishing L’Hacienda, where he collected and housed vehicles—many sourced from wrecks and garage clients. Despite a chaotic appearance, the site preserved numerous rare sports cars and prototypes that might otherwise have been lost. Gombert was known for his generosity in allowing enthusiasts to visit his property, provided they did not remove anything. He passed away in April 2016.
